I was at Wirksworth Market today (I’m there every Tuesday) and I had a lovely day (as I do every Tuesday).
Why do I love it so much? The people, stall holders and customers, they are all lovely and love to chat!
I’ve had all sorts of conversations with people. I had one gentleman ask me what my favourite book was, and of course why (To Kill a Mockingbird – but that’s a story for another day), other’s ask for recommendations for a good read for themselves, or books for their Grandchildren or children. I am happy to help with recommendations (sometimes even books I haven’t got in stock)
Today I was talking to a lovely gentleman about Birmingham, and the very first bookshop I worked in, Hudson’s Bookstore in New Street, Birmingham. He even remembered that the paperbacks department used to be on the Stephenson Street side of the shop! I have very fond memories of working there in the late eighties and early nineties. I even worked with John Hudson back when I first started there. I met lots of amazing people, including Shaun Hutson (one of my favourite authors) and even Bob Catley of Magnum popped in for a CD to use at one of their concerts.
The conversation came about because we were discussing an author who he going to review that writes books based on fact around the war. I have googled this author and am planning to read a couple of their books and I will let you know what I think… Another on the list of books to read!
