Well what a success the Heanor Town Trail was this summer… Over the space of 6 weeks I handed out over 100 competition forms, talked to numerous people about books, the town trail and accepted a fair proportion of the forms back to be entered into the prize draw. To all of you that took part, stopped to find out what it was about, I would like to say a HUGE THANKYOU for your support. And also a mention to the Business’s that took part – it would not have happened without you. Heanor Vision, a local Community Group also played a huge part by offering their design skills, and a fair amount of printing for the competition forms, and not forgetting my foray onto BBC Radio Derby on 29th July…
The winners were drawn by Cassie (one of the small business owners that has a stall on Heanor Market), and adjudicated by Nicola, Secretary of Heanor Vision. The 3 lucky winners received their prizes. These consisted of 1st Prize a box of £30 of books, and 2 runners up prizes of bags containing £15 worth of books.
I absolute loved organising the trail, and myself and my daughter had immense fun making the Ducks and deciding their names. There were 20 ducks altogether, and some of the names had special meaning. Magenta, the Timewarp Duck was named after one of the characters in The Rocky Horror Show, Johnny in Stacey’s Bakery was named after an American Corn Bread. Fleur in Pipers, a lovely name that translates as Flower in English. Summer in Up-Town Tanning is named after a character in one of Virginia Andrews Novels, as well as being apt for the time of year. Thomas in the Town Hall was after Thomas Bloodworth who was the 330th May of London and was presiding Mayor during the Great Fire of London in 1666. What’s that got to do with Heanor you ask? Well, Thomas was born “Thomas Blidworth” in Heanor in 1620, and the town trail finished on 2nd September 2023 which was the 357th anniversary of the Great Fire of London.
Keep an eye on my Facebook Page in the new year, as I will be doing it all over again, but with a different theme in early 2024.
