It’s that time of year again where the Christmas Lights are being lit up across the Country and the Festive Events are taking place.
I have already taken part in a few Christmas Events this year, the first was Smalley Pre-School’s Christmas Shopping Event on 17th November, followed by Heanor Lights Switch on, Saturday 18th November.
Heanor is my home town, so as you can imagine I am quite heavily involved with the Festivities, and my main role is to ensure the Market runs smoothly, organising traders and ensuring everyone knows what they are doing on the day. As a team we started erecting the metal frames at 7am, then came boards (table tops) and Tarpaulins (roof) festoons and garlands (lights and fairy lights). All this took a few hours and a lot of manpower to ensure that everything was ready in time for the traders arriving from 12 noon.
We had an amazing day, with stalls selling everything from cheese to plants, sweets, cakes, fudge, handcrafted gifts, books (of course) and much more. The whole town was buzzing and lots of businesses stayed open for the duration.
In Church they had a Grotto with story telling from local people, run by Heanor Vision. These books were supplied by my business and for every book sold 10% (roughly 79p per book) was donated to Heanor Vision (A Community Interest Company). These books are available to purchase on my website, and I will be donating 10% from each sale up to 23rd December to Heanor Vision as a thank you for the support they have offered me in the time I have been working with them.
The next event was Ilkeston Lights Switch On (see picture) where I was situated in The Erewash Museum Courtyard. What an amazing event, and thank you to the organisers for letting me be part of it for a second year.
Then followed Codnor Community Groups Christmas Fair on Sunday 26th November.
Looking forward to the remaining events during December and of course all the regular Markets’ I will be attending up to the big day!
My regular Markets are
- Wirksworth – Tuesdays from 8.30am – 12.45pm
- Matlock – Wednesday 6th & 20th December only
- Heanor – Friday & Saturday up to and including 23rd December which will be my last Market of 2023
